Granted Frontiers of Knowledge Award – The Star of Panama

The American professor David Tilman won the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in the category of Ecology and Conservation Biology scientifically substantiate the value of biodiversity.

For the record, the jury explains that this researcher was the first to quantify the ability of biodiversity to achieve ‘more productive and more resistant to invasions’ and ‘more stable against disruptive events such as droughts’ ecosystems.

This underlines the jury, Tilman gave a scientific basis for the need to conserve biodiversity, a discovery that led to one of the most cited of modern ecology and was published in the journal Nature in 1994. Tilman work career has been developed at the University Minnesota (USA), which arrived in 1976 and where is professor since 1984.
