The racial diversity and same-sex couples reach the ‘emoji’ – www.nssoaxaca.com

The characters in the new update for iOS have different skin tones and there are same-sex couples.

The emojis finally are diversifying. In the next update of Apple emoji icons, a number of small cartoon characters will be available in six different skin tones.

The male and female faces, like icons thumbs up and down They are available in different colors. Other emoji characters like princesses and builders will also have greater diversity. Holding down one emoji may see the new skin tone options.

Different people are just some of the 300 new emojis included in the latest version of iOS 8.3. The new icons are not available to the public until the update is published later this year.

Apple promised to increase diversity on your keyboard emoji last March after complaints from the public by limited to people from different backgrounds options. A petition Dosomething.org collected thousands of signatures. Even Miley Cyrus tweeted about it, helping it to become viral on Twitter.

The current icons include same-sex couples but no black characters. It is a Asian man wearing a traditional Chinese hat and an Indian man with a turban, but the rest of the population of emoji is clear complexion.

Creating a more diverse selection of emoji was not as easy as launching a new update iOS. The keyboard of illustrated icons is based on Unicode, the standard for text, numbers and emojis on all platforms. Emoji originated in Japan and was added to the Unicode Standard in 2010. Apple’s included natively on iOS in 2011.

“Apple supports and cares deeply about diversity, and is working with The Unicode Consortium for update the standard to have a better representation of diversity for everyone, “said a spokesman for Apple.

To integrate the extended palette of skin tones, Unicode used the Fitzpatrick scale, which was originally developed by dermatologists to classify different types of skin.

Apple is also adding 32 new flags of countries and an expanded selection of icons families, including more same-sex couples.
