Writing / El Sol de Mexico

City México.- Earlier this year have logged about 3 billion people online, and although it is an extraordinary figure, means that only 40 percent of the world population is connected to internet ever

A new study Internet.org entitled “State of connectivity: Report on the global Internet.” examines the current situation of Internet connectivity and examines who is connected, who does not and why.

Using existing data of the main sources of connectivity in the world and our own findings, the research examines the penetration of Internet and barriers to growth.

People unconnected are disproportionately concentrated in developing countries. 78 percent of the population in developed nations is online, compared to just 32 percent in emerging economies

In addition, the Internet adoption is slowing. The growth rate fell for the fourth consecutive year to just 6.6 percent in 2014, a slowdown compared to 14.7 percent in 2010. At the current rate of deceleration, the online population will reach 4 billion people through 2019.

To connect to internet worldwide have to face three major barriers to access. infrastructure, price and awareness of the value of connectivity

The CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, will discuss the March 2 Internet.org initiative to expand the connectivity during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The session will take place at 1700 hrs GMT and may be accompanied live by mobileworldlive.com
