They propose to regulate speed internet – El Diario de Yucatán

WASHINGTON (AP) .- The internet service providers, including those that sell wireless connections, would be prohibited accelerate or slow traffic on the web under rules proposed yesterday by a US federal important regulator, which would subject the industry unprecedented legislation.

In an article for the magazine “Wired”, the director of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Tom Wheeler, says his plan would regulate internet service in the same way telephone service, implementing Title II of the Communications Act of 1934.

Wheeler explains that the new regulations would not use to tell companies how much to charge users or to levy taxes. The industry has strongly opposed this position by arguing that it would be a matter of time that the rules became more strict and discourage investment in the business.

“My proposal guarantees the rights of users Internet to go where they want, when they want and rights of innovators to introduce new products without asking anyone’s permission, “says Wheeler.

The FCC will vote on Thursday 26 on the proposed regulation.

Internet Neutrality is behind the idea that the service providers do not move content faster than other economic or reach agreements with companies like Netflix to prioritize its data flow.

The plan Wheeler is a considerable leap towards regulation of internet service in an industry that has so far had little government oversight. Consumer advocates have argued for stricter rules as a way to maintain free and open internet, while critics warn that the industry tying reduce innovation and investment
