Twitter, in favor of freedom – El Diario de Yucatan

SAN FRANCISCO (EFE) .- The CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, said yesterday that the social network is a tool for freedom of expression and who will not rest until that right is guaranteed worldwide.

“Twitter is synonymous with freedom of expression and will not rest until that is a fundamental human right,” said Dorsey at the annual developer conference held in San Francisco.

Dorsey, who was appointed permanent chief executive this month after holding the post on an interim three months, said that Twitter is a tool that speaks truth to power, as demonstrated to denounce police abuses against African-Americans in the campaign #blacklivesmatter United States.

He added that the network also promotes dialogue and remains, nine years after its creation, “one of the quickest ways” to communicate something to the world and see what is being saying in the world.

“It is a simple messaging service. A service made by people and for people, “he said Twitter cofounder, before about 1,500 developers involved in the event.

apologized to the design community for a relationship that may have created “confusion”.

“I am before you today to ask forgiveness for our confusion,” Dorsey said, to which he added that “at some point in our relationship with developers became complicated”.

“We want to relaunch our relationship and make sure we learn, listen and restart,” he said.

Twitter encouraged developers after its launch in 2006 to develop network-based services, but restricted that possibility later after the launch of initiatives considered rivals, including photo-sharing service Instagram.

Dorsey last week announced the dismissal of 8% of the workforce of the company, a total of 336 week employees.

With 300 million users, Twitter recorded revenues of 938 million dollars in the first half of this year, but lost $ 299 million in that period and accumulated 1,900 billion in numbers . red since its creation
