Facebook speaks openly about virtual reality – ABC Color

SAN FRANCISCO. Virtual reality, artificial intelligence and manned ships do not allow Facebook to create a social network more useful, the company said in its clearest explanation of technology projects that have intrigued investors and analysts.

Facebook executives said Thursday in its annual developer conference in San Francisco, initiatives such as the purchase last year of manufacturer Oculus virtual reality helmets for 2000 million and the hiring of aerospace experts make sense for the social network of 1,400 million members.

While virtual reality helmets as the Oculus Rift could point to games and entertainment devices could transform the way people communicate through Facebook, said

Events like a birthday party or first bike ride of a child could be shared on Facebook for users in different parts of the world feel like they are participating at the time. Facebook said the device Oculus would be released “soon” but did not provide a timeframe.

“After thousands of shows, we know we are on the threshold, we approached achieve that sense of presence where for a moment your conscious brain is dominated by the subconscious that says, ‘You are not where you think you are,’ “said CTO of Facebook, Mike Schroepfer , during his presentation at the second day of the conference.

Facebook has never clarified its plans for virtual reality, told the conference Vlada Bortnik , founder of creative applications company Happy Bits. “Their mission I is connecting the world and Virtual Reality transports people to a different place,” he said.

Facebook said it had recently conducted the first test flight of a prototype unmanned aircraft powered by solar energy. It is building “drones” flying at an altitude of up to 27,000 meters to bring the internet to remote areas of the world.

Facebook and Google are building satellites and “drones” that allow billions of people without internet connect to the network, as companies compete to become the center of Internet access for consumers and traders.

The group of artificial intelligence and Facebook plans to increase new users by developing technology to help them cope with the growth of messages and photos on the social network.

“If we get our first goal, all to enter Internet, building services at scale for the entire planet we would create this new problem: So much information you could not consume the important things for you, “Schroepfer said
