Windows 10 will debut next summer – CNNExpansión.com

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) – Windows 10 is a few months away. Microsoft has not given an exact date, but the company announced it would launch the operating system sometime this summer. Although the schedule is vague, is a bit more specific than “later in the year”, which had been the mantra of Microsoft until Wednesday.

Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for current users of Windows 7 and 8.1, as well as for customers of Windows Phone 8.1. Microsoft has not yet announced pricing for people who use Windows Vista or earlier, but frankly, you’re better off buying a new PC at this point if you have not even been to Windows 7.

Since Windows 10 will be available on personal computers and phones, Microsoft has partnered with two Chinese companies smartphones to manufacture handsets Windows 10. Lenovo said it will start selling Windows 10 phones through China Mobile operator mid-year, and Xiaomi said some users smartphone My 4 may try Windows 10 in their devices.

Windows 10 will be the first major update of the operating system Microsoft in three years. Microsoft understands that Windows 8 was not well received by customers, and most of the changes in Windows 10 reflect that.

The new software provides a familiar experience for users of Windows 7 that never migrated to Windows 8, while incorporating some innovations to the PC that are already common currency among users of tablets and smartphones .

This is a quick summary for the uninitiated.

Windows 10 retrieves the Start Menu, which organizes all tiles that populated Windows 8. The new OS boots directly on the desktop, and stays there. Internet Explorer has been displaced by a new and improved Web browser. The voice assistant Cortana (like Siri) live in the taskbar. You can run multiple desktops. A new notification center and activity gives you a quick look at the status of your PC. And you can even unlock Windows 10 with the facial recognition software.

And if you upgrade to Windows 10, Windows will get free updates for the life of your PC or phone.

Just wait until summer.
