WhatsApp disappointed at F8 developers – CNET in Spanish

co-founder courier company says it is focused on providing the best user experience, even if it does not allow compatibility with other apps .

Brian Acton, WhatsApp, disappointed over a developer for F8 Paul Sakuma

What can you buy for US $ 19,000? Sometimes a lot of trouble.

That’s something that Facebook learned this week during its F8 developer conference in San Francisco, when executives tried to explain to an audience of eager developers to create apps why they will not offer a way to insert programs and services to 700 million users worldwide WhatsApp.

During a panel with other Facebook executives, developers asked the co-founder of WhatsApp, Brian Acton If your service provide tools for interfacing with their programs. Many Web services such as Google, offer these tools, enabling applications to rise and download photos or information or access to information such as map data.

When a developer advocated for WhatsApp created these tools to help its application to connect to their large user base abroad, the audience applauded in approval. “It’s very delicate and difficult to say here,” Acton said. “No, we have no plans at this time right now.”

The reason, he said, is that WhatsApp not want to inundate users with messages they do not want to allow external developers the ability connect with your service.

“I am sympathetic to their cause, and I receive emails from people routinely they want, either run your app or run something with WhatsApp as the backbone of their communication, but we are balancing that with the user experience, “Acton said. “The user experience is something we have to consider sacred … we want the messages to be desired, unforced”.

Some developers were not satisfied with their response. Although the talk was not finished, the audience began to leave the room after that answer.

The decision highlights the sometimes conflicting relationship between Internet companies. The culture of Silicon Valley is built, in many cases around the easy exchange of information from company to company. People who own iPhones Apple, for example, still be connected to Google services, access your email, calendar and contacts stored in the systems of the search giant if they wish. The great social network Facebook is often used by other companies as a way to access their services or to provide information to the media.

However, some technology giants are more protective than others of access to their systems. They can not offer much (or any) access to other software developers, often citing fear – similar to Acton -. Of potential adverse effects that external programs may have about their services

But that did not stop a developer pressed further Acton

Mary Meeker, highly respected Internet analyst and senior partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Dev. Byers, defended WhatsApp Acton and after the exchange.

“I know there is frustration,” Meeker said. “But if you have a company that is the fastest and smartest messaging service on the planet” and be part of a company like Facebook does not force you to change that … it is a good thing.
