Facebook takes applications and businesses Messenger Service – Reuters

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Facebook Inc opened on Wednesday its Messenger service for developers to create applications for it and buyers to communicate directly with retailers in full pursuit to expand the scope of its courier and position to greater competition.


       

Facebook introduced new features in its annual developer conference in San Francisco, first allowing developers to create applications that run within the Messenger service, used by over 600 million people.


       

Messenger will feature more than 40 different applications in the coming days, allowing users to send each other sporting videos and animations, among other things, said Facebook. Among the first applications include ESPN and The Weather Channel.


       

“This is just the first step toward creating a better shared throughout this family of applications experience,” said the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, during the conference.


       

Facebook has accumulated a number of mobile applications in recent years, including Instagram and WhatsApp, which acquired 19,000 million in 2014. But during the first two days of the conference attention was put into Messenger.


       

The company wants to turn his courier to one regardless of its flagship social network operates, facing growing competition from Twitter Inc and Google Inc, as well as flourishing as Snapchat messaging applications and WeChat.


       

Facebook is also associated with online retailers zulily and Everlane to enable consumers to contact them directly through Messenger to change online orders -the color of a shirt, for example-and to notify them when a purchase has been sent.
