Tom Wheeler, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission US (FCC, for its acronym in English) said that the internet does require an arbitrator and rules that are fair to all participants and users telecommunications networks, including suppliers, operators and companies operating on the Internet.
During his participation in the Mobile World Congress 2015, Wheeler said that the rules do not prejudice in any way consumers and the services they receive ., then these rules must adapt to new environments
“I can say that today there are only three rules: non blocking of content, not the content prioritization paid and not the bottleneck network,” explained .
The US official defended his position by comparing the regulation of internet with the first amendment of his country and said that neither companies nor the government have the right to restrict the internet.
“If the internet is the most powerful and pervasive platform on the planet can you exist without a referee? Sure it’s not necessary to have, and that’s what we’ve created with this regulation, “he said.
He described the regulation as a set of rules that say that activity in the network should be fair and reasonable, and all must take responsibility to invest in their maintenance and expansion in the market.
“Those opposed to the open Internet standards complain that this is an arbitrary regulation, but we build our based model that is used for mobile telephony and that has been very successful in our country, “he said.
He commented that the value given to the use of spectrum in your country is very high, but ultimately is not about how much worth, but the value that the industry is taking with the use of that spectrum. Today “specialists provide services are the kings of Internet activity”
Note that regulating Internet was approved last week in the United States and since then the sector companies have shown their dissatisfaction about this, arguing that this measure will discourage investment in networks by the operators.
