The 2004 flyby BL86 be the space rock nearest known this size until the asteroid 1999 AN10 pass through the neighborhood of the Earth in 2027. At the time of its closest approach on January 26, the asteroid will be about 1.2 million kilometers from Earth.
“On Monday January 26 the closer the asteroid 2004BL86 occur for at least the next 200 years,” said Don Yeomans, director of the Program Objects Near the NASA Earth. He said, “does not represent a threat to Earth in the foreseeable future, offers us a unique opportunity to observe and learn more.” NASA scientists plan to learn more about this asteroid with the use of microwaves.
“We will have detailed images on radar data a day after the flyby,” said astronomer Lance Benner radar, JPL the principal investigator of radar observations of asteroid Goldstone. “Today, we know almost nothing about the asteroid, so there will be surprises for sure.”
It is expected that the asteroid may be visible so that fans can watch through telescopes and binoculars powerful . “I take my favorite binoculars and give me a chance to myself,” Yeomans said
