Creator of the iPod is the brain of Google Glass – CNNExpansión.com

MEXICO CITY (CNNExpansión) – Google appointed Thursday to Tony Fadell leader Google Glass, after announcing that smart lenses will leave the experimental stage and will now be an independent unit.

Born in 1969, Fadell is an American of Lebanese origin who began his career in the world of technology at General Magic, a company that emerged from a process of division of Apple in 1990, and which had the mission of bringing the computer industry in the development of a new generation of mobile devices known as Personal Digital Assistants or (PDA for its acronym in English), precursors of devices like the Palm.

Fadel was responsible for the development of electronics such as Sony Magic Link and Motorola Envoy, according to his biography and information on websites

In 1995 he joined Philips, where he worked as co-founder of Mobile Computing unit and later as Chief Technology Officer of a Dutch company.

His name began to appear in the pages of media in early 2001 when Apple decided to hire Fadell as one of those involved in the design, planning and strategy of a newly created division within the signing of the apple audio products, which would be responsible to market the iPod digital player.

According to an article in The New York Times, Fadell was appointed by Steve Jobs as the leader of the team of engineers and designers iPod and iSight products.

In 2004, the firm apple promoted him to vice president of iPod engineering and two years later became president of the entire division, replacing Jon Rubinstein.

The executive is held the post until 2008 when Apple announced that Fadell left the company.

Frustration = multimillion notion

Fadell has recorded more than 300 licenses to the Patent Office of the United States.

In mid-2010, along with a former colleague of Apple and frustrated by poor characteristics of thermostats, Fadell founded the company that would make billionaire and take him to join the list of Google: Nest .

The company was responsible for developing the first smart thermostat market. The gadget is driven by sensors, has Wi-Fi connectivity and accommodates controlled via smartphones.

Nest was acquired by Google in 2014 for 3,200 million.

The California announced in mid-January 2015 that Fadell will remain responsible for developing products Nest, currently in its second generation, but also take the lead of Google Glass.
